Rothley Imps 5 Barlestone St Giles 1 Barlestone toiled against title-chasing Rothley, mainly due to a lack of team cohesion, finishing and the absence of 6 regular players. Playing on a difficult, bobbly surface and into a strong breeze, the visitors did well to hold the home side to 2-0 at half time. Barlestone started brightly in the second half and were unlucky to go 3 - 0 down before Dave Leigh pounced on indecision by the home keeper to pull one back. Thereafter Barlestone spurned many chances to get back on terms and the home side broke away twice late on to give the scoreline a flattering appearance in their favour. The visitors' stand-in keeper and 4 debutant outfield players played their part in supporting the regulars, but to no avail. Central defender, Thomas Sloan, was named Man-of-the-Match

U18 President's Trophy Barlestone St Giles 2 Market Bosworth 0 Despite never playing particularly well or moving into 2nd gear, Barlestone eased past their local rivals in this group fixture in the Presidents Trophy. However, it could have been a different result had the visitors not spurned early chances. Midway through the first half, a superb right foot cross drilled into the 18 yard box from Charlie Cunningham found Nico Miotello ghosting in to volley home. The second half was more open and both sides could and should have scored, but it was left to sub, Jamie White to lob the Bosworth keeper and secure the points in the first of 4 group games for the home side. Left back, Liam Taberner, was named Man-of-the-Match for a solid performance.
08/03/09 Kingsway Rangers 1 Barlestone St Giles 1 For the third game in succession, Barlestone have come away from a game wondering how they have not managed to pick up all 3 points. From the kick off they dominated possession, restricting the home side to one strike in the first half that narrowly missed. Barlestone missed a list of goal scoring opportunities as Thomas Sloan, Jake Wibberley and Matt Horn all failed to hit the target, before Joe Waterfield rose at a corner to head them in front. 1-0 to Barlestone at half time. The second half was a repeat of the first with chances spurned by the visitors - Jamie White, Dave Leigh - and others. Barlestone were left to rue their missed opportunities as Kingsway equalised from a corner and then followed this with a good 15 minute spell when the visitors had to dig deep to maintain their defence. Central defender, Charlie Cunningham was named Man-of-the-Match

Barlestone St Giles 3 Glenfield Utd 5
Despite having 70% of the play, Barlestone have only themselves to blame for not taking 3 points from this game. However, it didn't look that way at half time as Glenfield took advantage of a lack lustre home defence who gifted the visitors 3 goals. A strike from Dave Leigh late in the half, following good work from Matt Horn and Jake Wibberley, gave the home side hope at half time as they trailled 3 - 1. After a stern talking to about playing to the game plan, Barlestone came out in the 2nd half and actually started playing the ball about, mainly on the ground. This resulted in goals for Thomas Sloan and Greg Jackson and the score was 3 - 3. The home side continued to press and dominate play with a hatful of chances being missed. It cost Barlestone dearly as 2 defensive errors then gifted their opponents 2 more goals and the 3 points. Man-of-the-match yet again was Dave Roberts for a tireless performance in midfield.

Barlestone St Giles 2 Rothley Imps 3
A blustery breeze welcomed both teams onto the pitch at Barlestone, and the visitors chose to have the elements in their favour in the first half. However, it was the home side who struck the first goal as a speculative shot from Dave Leigh from all of 20 yds bounced in front of the Rothley keeper and over his despairing dive. The visitors continued to play the ball on the floor and hit back just before half time as a low cross was steered home. In the second half, Barlestone created good chances to increase their lead, but none were converted until Dave Leigh capitalised on poor defending to fire home into the roof of the net. Barlestone centre backs, Joe Waterfield and Charlie Cunningham, contained all the league top scoring duo from Rothley could throw at them until a sprawling save from Josh Garrigan was tipped out to the advancing striker to slot home, 2 - 2. Both sides then decided attack was the best policy and both could have scored on many occasions before the visitors snatched victory with virtually the last kick of the game. Dave Roberts was named Man-of-the-Match for an energetic display in midfield.
Barrow Town 4 Barlestone St Giles 3
In the first game of a new campaign, Barlestone started slowly and soon found themselves 2 goals down against last year's league champions. However they showed great character in not letting their heads drop and fought back with goals from Jake Wibberley and Jamie White (2) to go into the break a goal ahead. Barrow increased the pressure in the second half and although Barlestone succumbed to an equaliser midway through the half, they were unlucky not to leave with at least a point, as Barrow sneaked a winner in the 88th minute. Man-of-the-Match was Joe Waterfield for a solid performance at the heart of Barlestone's defence.
01/02/09
Barlestone St Giles 2 Kirby Muxloe 0
The home side outplayed their opponents in a wind swept and snowy fixture. Barlestone goals came from Dave leigh and Jake Wibberley, but in fairness it should have been more, as they hit the bar twice and had a penalty saved by the Kirby keeper. It was a convincing performance by the whole squad playing in a new diamond format. Man-of-the-Match was Charlie Cunningham acting as stand-in keeper and for producing a superb tip over at 1-0, keeping his side ahead.
21/12/08
League Cup Q-final Barlestone St Giles 0 Oadby Owls 2
This Q-final fixture pitted Div 1 against Premier but at times the game didn't reflect this, despite the premier side coming out on top. In truth, the home side keeper was only troubled on 4 occasions, but he had to pick the ball out of the net on 2 of those, such was the performance of the Barlestone defence. The Oadby goals came midway through both halves and despite close efforts from Matt Horn and Dave Leigh, Barlestone struggled to create significant openings. Overall, the home side competed strongly against their higher league opponents but just couldn't provide the finishing power. Skipper Jamie White was named Man-of-the-Match for a tireless performance.
30/11/08
Market Bosworth 1 Barlestone St Giles 6
In a return league fixture from last week, Barlestone produced an accomplished passing display that saw them dominate possession in earning the 3 points. They took the lead through skipper Jamie White, only for a speculative through ball from the home side to catch out their defence and level the scores. Thereafter it was all Barlestone and by half time a brace of goals from Dave Leigh had given them a 3 - 1 lead. Further goals from Jake Wibberley and Joe Waterfield added to by Man-of-the-Match Dave Leigh with his hat trick strike gave Barlestone a thoroughly deserved win, lifting them up to 3rd in the league.
23/11/08
Barlestone St Giles 2 Market Bosworth 1
Barlestone abandoned the pre-match talk and game plan and tried to persist with a direct through ball plan which failed miserably. With a strong wind behind them, and on a tricky surface, the home side would have been better keeping the ball down and playing to feet. Having said all that they did take the lead as a through ball from Matt Horn fell to skipper Jamie White and he calmly finished. Bosworth refused to give in despite facing a head wind and, following a poor clearance from a corner, deservedly equalised. 1 - 1 at half time and a stern team talk to the home side took place at the interval. The second half started much better with Barlestone playing the ball to feet and creating scoring opportunities. However, the Bosworth keeper produced a series of fine saves to keep his side in the game. Halfway through the second half a telling run by Jamie White resulted in a cross to the unmarked Greg Jackson and he slotted home what turned out to be the winning goal. Barlestone could have added further goals as Matt Horn, Jamie White, Greg Jackson and Dave Leigh all went close late on. Man-of-the-Match was centre Half Thomas Sloan.
16/11/08
Barlestone St Giles 4 Soar Valley 2
A different Barlestone team to that which turned out against Kingsway, took to the field for this League Cup fixture. Attitude and application were much better, and the scoreline could and perhaps should have shown a wider margin. Great work down the right by Jamie White resulted in a cross that Greg Jackson converted, and in almost a repeat move, Dave Leigh produced an excellent cross onto the head of Man-of-the-Match Jamie White to make it 2 - 0 to the home side. Soar Valley then battled back and scored just before half time to put the game back in the balance. However, Barlestone had the better of the second half, missing numerous opportunities to increase their lead before a solo run by Matt Horn was finished with a fierce shot into the bottom corner. Barlestone's lead was extended further by the tireless Jake Wibberley before a late rally saw Soar Valley score again. However, it was the home side's day and they could have put the game to bed with other missed opportunities. Barlestone now progress into the Q-finals.
16/11/08
Barlestone St Giles 1 Kingsway Rangers 7
The home side battled hard against a strong breeze in the first half to restict a lively Kingsway side to 2 - 0, even if it was 'backs to the wall' at times. Barlestone optimistically started the second half looking to press home the advantage of the elements, but it never materialised and Kingsway scored 5 more with ease. A late rally saw Dave Roberts score a consolation goal from the penalty spot. Winger Dave Leigh won Man-of-the-Match for Barlestone
30/10/08
Kirby Muxloe 1 Barlestone St Giles 5
Despite gearing up for a strong start, Barlestone soon found themselves under pressure from an inspired home side. However, as the half progressed, the visitors came more into the game once they'd mastered the tricky slope and short, but wide pitch. At half time both sides had failed to trouble the scorers. The second half was a totally different matter as Barlestone dominated. Jake Wibberley's perseverance created his and the visitor's opening goal, soon followed by his 2nd. Matthew Horn broke down the left and calmly slotted Barlestone's 3rd before Thomas Sloan's solo effort added a fourth. Jake Wibberley was unlucky not to net a hat-trick as his last effort was ruled out by the official. However, he soon earned his side a penalty, powerfully converted by Joe Waterfield. The visitors then eased back and Kirby came close with a couple of efforts, the second of which was superbly tipped round the post by Josh Garrigan. As Barlestone continued to 'showboat', the home side kept going and were rewarded with a goal from a corner. However it was only a late consolation and Barlestone came away with a 5 -1 victory which was thoroughly deserved. Midfield maestro, David Roberts was named Man-of-the-Match for a tireless performance.
21/09/08
Barlestone St Giles 3 Barrow Town 3
Barlestone's 2nd game was the return fixture against Barrow, making a mockery of the league fixture list. Again Barrow started the better, opening the scoring from a corner kick. However, the home side were awarded a penalty when Matthew Horn was brought down by the visitor's keeper. Skipper Jamie White's powerful shot left the Barrow keeper with no chance. Joe Waterfield then reacted when everyone else stood still, to force the ball home from a Dan Boulton corner and Barlestone lead 2 - 1 at the break. In an open game Barlestone extended their lead when Man-of-the-Match Jake Wibberley raced on to a through ball before calmly slotting the ball past the advancing keeper. The home side should have closed the game down, but Barrow wouldn't give up although their 2nd goal, from the penalty spot, came after a debatable decision for handball. The bounce of the ball was very much ball to hand rather than the other way round. Barlestone continued to attack but Barrow caught them on the break to equalise and set up a tense last few minutes. Sadly a good game was marred after the final whistle as Barrow substitute was shown red card for violent conduct against his own manager.
