Barlestone St.G.Y.F.C. V G.N.G. u'14's 28-12-08
win 5-2

Barlestone's first ever game during the Christmas break, it was afternoon kick off, the sun was shinning and the feeling was good. The game was off to a slow start, G.N.G. were to test Barlestones keeper first Ryan Dagley produced an across goal diving save to deny them, in the 8th min. Barlestones defence of Luke Dagley, Stephan Storino, George Pickering and Luke Dagley put pay to all of G.N.G's advances, there were rock solid pulling the line and punting the ball up. It wasn't to be long before the mid and strikers were doing there job, a well timed pass from Howkins on the left wing to Marco Storino on the right side leaving him to just beat the keeper, placing it in the top left corner 1-0 Barlestone, 13 mins. The game was flowing nicely G.N.G. just couldn't break Barlestone down just a couple more chances but keeper Dagley dealt with them coolly. Barlestone were creating lots of chances Kyle Hardy going just wide of the mark. Just before the break Barlestone were awarded a free kick on the half way line, Haddon took it and with precession found Sam Foster, who volleyed a pass to M.Storino, another fine strike on the edge of the box from M.Storino lobbing the keeper 2-0, 34 mins. From the centre G.N.G. advanced quickly, a shot on goal looked sure to be going in, Haddon's goal line clearance kept the score 2-0 to Barlestone at the break.
Barlestone started the second half a little slower than G.N.G., they took advantage of this, and an early attempt on goal paid off 2-1, 38 mins. Barlestone were getting back in the game now and Barlestone's mid of Hardy, Ryan Martin, Vaughan Howkins, Foster and M. Storino were working well together, passing it around waiting for an opening, M. Storino's shot at G.N.G.s keeper was to powerful to control pushing in to the path of Foster who hammered it home from 19 yards out, 3-1 Barlestone 41 mins. G.N.G. put some pressure on Barlestones defence but the back five were strong, a lucky break for G.N.G. 55th min, brought the score back to within reach for the visitors, 3-2 Barlestone. Barlestone meant business now, and the defence didn't give G.N.G. any more chances for the rest of the game, Barlestone were determined to get the points today, the Storino's swooped positions and S. Storino became striker along with Foster, it wasn't long before S.Storino's pace was to much for G.N.G. to handle, some very nice football between Martin and S.Storino Saw Storino open his account for the day, with a well taken left footer putting it beyond the keepers reach, 57 mins 4-2 Barlestone. Hardy provided S.Storino's second minutes later, a well placed ball to Storino, saw him lob the keeper from outside the box, 5-2 Barlestone. There was just enough time left for Haddon to produce another goal line clearance keeping the final score 5-2 Barlestone.
You showed real character and gamesmanship today lads working really well as team and getting on with the job inhand, really proud lads for your efforts today you deserved the win, Marc and Jeff.

Barlestone St.G.Y.f.c. Vs Birstall C.C. U'14's 02-11-08
lost 2-5

It was cold and miserable and the game started quiet slow, Barlestones first chance came early on, a 1-2 played between Marco Storino and Kieran Percival saw CC's keeper get down well. Barlestone's keeper Ryan Dagley was tested twice in quick fire concession, producing two very good diving saves in the 4th min. M. Storino's shot from Percivals throw went just wide of the mark. Barlestone's midfield of Frankie Armsden, Ryan Martin, Kyle Hardy, Percival, Daniel Woolnough and Vaughan Howkins, were creating so many chances for Sam Foster and M. Storino. Barlestone's persistence was to pay off, a good 40 yard pass from Percival straight down the heart of the pitch, found M. Stoirno which only left him to round the keeper and finish 1-0 with 27mins played. From the centre CC's broke down the right wing and pulled it back level. Birstall seemed very hungry and replied with another quick goal bringing the score to 2-1 with 5 mins left of the half. Barlestone looked shocked at what had happened, Barlestones defence of Luke Dagley, Jordan Haddon, George Pickering and Stephan Storino had there work cut out now and were being pressured. Birstall were to get 1 more before half time to finish at 3-1 the CC's.
Barlestone carried on as they started creating chances from the off, Hardy's shot saved in the first min of play, Foster's shot was also to go just wide of the post with 38 mins played. Barlestone kept pressing and going forward, but lady luck was not to be on there side today, umpteen chances going wide, or CC's keeper was producing some very nice saves and stops indeed. Jordan Haddon was to put stop to one of CC's chances with a fine tackle in the box and claiming the ball back. Yet more chances for Barlestone could not find the back of the net no matter how hard they tried. Two more chances for M.Storino were put stop by CC's keeper, a rebound of the second was mopped up by Percival who was also denied By Birstall's Keeper. Another chance for Percival moments later was met with the same fate as before. Birstall replied almost immediately, Making it 4-1 19 mins played. Barlestone didn't give up at all, and more chances from Barlestone just couldn't hit the mark. Pickering disarmed on of  CC's strikers right in front of the goal. It was to be Birstalls day though, a break from deep in there half allowed the score to go 5-1 with only 6 mins left to play. Yet more chances for Barlestone went unpaid over the bar, post and once again Birstall's keeper, Barlstone did managed to claim the last goal of the day, a well placed pass from Howkins to M. Storino finished the afternoon 5-2 Birstall.
Well lads like we said luck was not on our side today, we created so many chances, we did think that someone had stretched cling film over the goal.
Well done Marc and Jeff

Queniborough Vs Barlestone St. Giles Youth F.C. U'14's 26-10-08
won 4-5

It was a morning kick off conditions were good, Queniborough started a lot quicker than Barlestone, Testing keeper Ryan Dagley, who produced a fine diving save keeping them out early in the game. Queniborough kept the pressure on Barlestone, and were causing a few problems, Queniborough started off the proceedings though with a well worked goal on 5 mins. Barlestone looked a bit shaken and Queniborough were taking advantage, keeping Barlestone penned in. It wasn't to be long before they were to score again 10 mins later, 2-0 Queniborough. Barlestone started to play a bit more football, passing and surging forward, Kieran Percival's throw from deep in Queniborough's half to Marco Storino tight on the touch line saw him curl in a left footer into the top bag, 2-1 Queniborough on 22 mins. Queniborough were not going to take this, and retaliated almost immediately, with there third of the day. Barlestone weren't going to take it lying down either, Barlestone replied straight away from the centre, a well timed pass from Sam Jennings allowed Frankie Armsden to Thump his volley home from outside the box putting it out of the keepers grasp into the top left bag, 3-2 Queniborough with 25 mins played. Barlestones midfield of Armsden, Jennings, Vaughan Howkins and kieran Percival Started to grow in confidence, advancing making the plays. Stephan Storino's long range Pass to M. Storino down the left wing let him cut inside Queniborough's defence and smash home his second of the day, 3 all with 7 mins left of the half. Barlestone seemed to relax a little, and believe in them selves. Queniborough hadn't given up though and were taking there chances, a quick break from deep in there half let Queniborough claim there 4th off the day,  just on the stroke of half time 4-3.
Second half started well for Barlestone and M. Storino had a hand full of chances either saved or wide of the mark. Barlestones defence of Luke Dagley, Jordan Haddon, George Pickering and S. Storino closed the doors to Queniborough's advances working hard to keep them at bay, most of the second half was end to end stuff, the winner was going to be decided by who wanted it the most. Barlestone stuck to the job in hand and defended well playing the balls up to the mid, Barlestone's strikers of Sam Foster and M. Storino were putting the pressure on Queniborough's keeper Testing him regularly, it took till extra time for Barlestone to get the equaliser, the partnership of Percival and M.Storino was reunited when Storino claimed his hatrick from a beautiful pass from Percival. The pace started to get frantic from Barlestone, and the urgency for another goal was obvious, nearly paying the price by having to many up front, another quick break from Queniborough, made S. Storino Save the game with a goal line clearance. The game seemed to go on for ever Barlestones chances were coming thick and fast, it was to be Barlestone that were the hungriest on the day, M. Storino mopped up a poor clearance from Queniborough claiming his forth  of the day and the victory for Barlestone 4-5.
Well lads real character coming from behind again, believing in yourselves and not giving up, another top performance from the team well done lads Marc and Jeff.

Barlestone St. G. Y.F.C. v St. Andrews Magpies U'14's 12-10-08
Lost 16-1 !

Well what can I say lads, 1st round of the county cup and Barlestone were at home to mid table second division St. Andrews Magpies. Unfortunately it was not to be Barlestones day, today we were given a master class in football. Magpies pilled on the pressure from the off keeper Ryan Dagley was put to the test twice in the 1st 30 secs, forcing him in to 2 diving saves. Barlestone never seemed to settle at all and could not cope with Magpies surges and it wasn't long before Magpies opened there account for the day in the 3rd min of play. Barlestone was inviting the challenge and the Magpies were happy to take them they bagged there second minutes later. Barlestones defence of Luke Dagley, Jordan Haddon, George Pickering, Kyle Hardy and Vaughan Howkins had plenty to do, a goal line stop from Haddon was sent straight back by the Magpies Ryan Dagley was forced to save, it was to powerful a shot to control and Magpies made it 3-0 with 12 mins played. Magpies were very hungry indeed and claimed there 4 th immediately afterwards. It didn't stop there either, Magpies carried on playing football and got 3 more very quick goals it was 7-0 with 21 mins played. Barlestone seemed to settle a little, and started to defend well Stephan Storino had a goal clearance and Pickering was also to deny Magpies going further forward with his surge across the box to claim back the ball from Magpies lone Striker. It looked like Barlestone had stopped the rot, but we just couldn't keep the Magpies out they got there 8th goal with the last kick of the half.
It was a long day for Barlestone and the torment still wasn't over, Magpies started as they finished a goal almost straight away, 2 more were to follow it was 11-0 with 46 mins played. Barlestone didn't give up ,though nor did they get there heads down, trying to find a way through, the best passage of play from Barlestone was a ball from Sam Jennings in defence to Marco Storino who took it forward and played it out to Kieran Percival, saw him unleash a 35 yard shot from deep on the right wing, beating the keeper 11-1 to the Magpies. The game was played in good spirits by both teams and the only incident of the day was 2 yellow cards, one given to each team, but by no means was the game scrappy, it was two players determination to win the ball. Barlestone continued to try but Magpies were the better team on the day and were rewarded with 5 more goals before the final whistle blew, a good days work for the Magpies finishing 16-1.
Well lads what can we say, if you don't believe in yourselves and you start to panic, it make you do things you wouldn't normally do, like being out of position and not communicating to each other. What was really nice to see, was you didn't get your heads down at all, and that shows character lads and on your day you can perform as well as any team out there.
Marc and Jeff.

Whitwick vs. B.St.G.Y.F.C. u'14's 21-09-08

It was very hot today but this did not stop the game starting right from the off. An rearly shot from whitwick in the first min saw it go just wide of the post, Kieran Percival responded at the other end straight away his shot also going wide.Percival delivered a mighty cross for Frankie Armsden just shaving the outside of the wood work, Whitwick replied with an early break and made good there chance in the 8th min. Whitwick started putting Barlestone under all kinds off pressure, the defence and mid were having to work realy hard in the baking sun. Keeper Ryan Dagley was forced to make 2 quick fire saves, this was to be followed up with a diving save from Dagley 3 mins later. Barlestones defence of Kyle Hardy, George Pickering, Jordan Haddon, Luke Dagley and Vaughan Howkins were all playing there part keeping Whitwick at bay, not letting Whitwick cash in on there many chances. Barlestone started to grow in confidence, and 2 almost identicle crosses from Percival on the right wing on Stephan Storino's head just missing the mark. Whitwick's striker was one on one with the keeper just coming into the box when Jordan Haddon sprang from nowwhere taking the ball away from Whitwick just as there striker was about to unlease his shot, with 10 mins left to play. Percival had a shot almost immediatley afterwards bouncing just over the bar, Whitwick carried on bursting forward and another chance was put stop to by Pickering appling pressure forcing a mistake making an easy save for R. Dagley half time finished 1-0 Whitwick.
Second half started with an early chance by Armsden making there keeper save, the ball was provided by M. Storino, another shot by Percival moments later went wide, Sam Jennings played a cracking ball through the middle for Percy to have another chance forcing the keeper into a good save. Barlestones Mid and Strikers Frankie Armsden, M. Storino, Percy, Sam Jennings, Stephan Storino, Sam Foster and Ryan Martin started to break down Whitwick's defence, the on slought prooved just to much. R. Dagley produced another cracking diving save, Pickering picked up the spliage playing it to L. Dagley who passed to M. Storino who made a 40 yrd pass to S.Storino switching play from rigth to left, S. Storino controlled and shot 1 all with 15 mins of the second half played. This was good for Barlestone  pressing even more on Whitwicks defence, another assist From M. Storino lobbing the defence leaving Percy to hammer one home, in the 56th min. It was not over yet though M. Storino turned goal scorer 5 mins later with a 25 yrd free kick putting it beyond the keepers reach. Whitwick were rattled now and allowed Barlestone to keep serging forward another freekick awarded to Barlestone watched Percy lob Whitwick's players allowing R. Martin to have a shot just shaving the top left hand corner, the game was to finish 3-1 Barlestone.
This was yet another good game lads, coming from behind again, shows real grit and determination, once again lads not only did we look like a team but we also played some very nice football at both ends of the park.
well done lads lets keep playing like a team, Marc and Jeff

Barlestone St. Giles Youth vs. Westfield Wanderers U'14 14-09-08

Barlestone started this seasons campaign against Westfield, the game started at a good pace Westfield putting the Keeper Ryan Dagley under pressure with an early shot, R.dagley claimed the ball and sent it straight up field, Marco Storino got hold of the ball A goal was only prevented by the fine save Westfield's keeper produced. George Pickering made a 25 yard dash to put stop to Westfield's shot on goal, Barlestone retaliated immediately, when Kieran Percival put one just over the crossbar, this was followed moments later, when Stephan Storino sent one just wide of the post. Barlestone were putting Westfield under all sorts of pressure, two more quick fire shots from Barlestone, a quality through ball through Westfield's defence from Sam Jennings to Ryan Martin left him one on one with the keeper, Westfield's keeper was on form saving Martins shot. The second came from a free kick delivered by George Pickering to M.Storino who just clipped the bar. Westfield's second serge on Barlestone was to prove fruitful and saw them take the lead on 23 mins. Just before half time Marco Storino played a good ball out on the wing for Stephan Storino to open Barlestones account.
Second half started the same Barlestone putting Westfield under all sorts of pressure, being a problem both in mid and defence just really having the run of play, Westfield made all of there chances count, and another break in the 47th min saw them take the lead again with a well taken goal. Barlestone dug really deep, and Jordan Haddon played a ball straight down the middle to Kieran Percival who's thunderous shot was only to be denied by the crossbar. Barlestones defence, Kyle Hardy, George Pickering, Jordan Haddon and Luke Dagley(making his debut game). Shut the doors to any more of Westfield's advances, even a free kick just outside Barlestones area was dealt with by Ryan Dagley. Barlestone just kept going forward piling on the pressure the midfield of Frankie Armsden, Daniel Wollnough, Sam Jennings, Sam Foster, Ryan Martin and Kieran Percival kept plugging away a well placed pass from Marco Storino to Percival saw Percival finish in style, 2 all with 4 mins to play, shots kept coming from Barlestone and the final kick off the game was a ball delivered by Percival to S.
